Dr. Lilian VanOtteren is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from veterinary school at Sao Paulo State University. For the next eight years, she completed a Theriogenology Residency and obtained her Master’s and Ph.D. in Theriogenology, while also working in a small animal general practice. Subsequently, for nine years as a tenured professor, she taught classes and established and managed the reproductive clinic at the university hospital. During this time, for one year, she obtained advanced specialization in animal reproduction in France and Belgium. Then she came to Michigan State University as a Visiting Scholar and worked as a postdoc for a total of four years. Going forward, Dr. VanOtteren plans to work in her areas of interest in small animal internal medicine, reproduction, soft tissue surgery, and animal behavior. Her main objective is to provide compassionate care for small animals with the highest standards in veterinary medicine. Outside her professional work, she and her husband are the proud parents of their 17-year-old daughter, Nina. She is also the personal vet for her two dogs Bouton and Betina, and Gato, the family’s black cat. During her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, pickleball, sailing, cross-country skiing, and reading.
